I must confess, as much as I love the summer, the winter is one of my favorite seasons. In Ithaca, we’ve been getting a lot of lake effect snow from lake Ontario and it snows a little bit all the time. It’s a winter wonderland–very pretty!
So when I’m not busy booking the remaining available dates on my summer calendars, I spend time on music projects. This winter I’ve been memorizing a lot of new piano pieces for my repertoire including Scott Joplin rags, Zez Confrey novelty rags from the 1920s, and one of my favorite stride piano pieces ever: Carolina Shout by James P Johnson.
I’m also working on music production with an upcoming dance music ep and 3 mini-mixtapes: Indie-EDM cocktail mix, French+NYC Disco House (I’m a huge Daft Punk and Masters at Work fan) and an Afro-Latin/Electro-Swing style mix.
Meanwhile, I’ve picked up playing the Electric Bass again which is SO fun. I use it mostly for recording but I have been known to play bass at jam sessions and who knows–maybe play with some bands at some point?
Once I complete one of my current projects, I’d like to start work on a solo piano album with my interpretations of Beatles songs to give to my clients. :-)
And finally, as always, plenty of research, discovery and listening to music. It amazes me how something we cannot see–music, can affect us so deeply. It has the power to bring people together, and I am grateful for the opportunities to continue pursuing music as my career.
I look forward to seeing you at an event soon!
